Dry Brushing for Beauty & Care

I recently read up on techniques to help reduce cellulite (yes, unfortunately it exists), and dry brushing came up at the top of the list. The benefits go far beyond what I imagined. What fascinates me most is how it combines beauty and healthcare in such a simple ritual.

Have you ever tried dry brushing? I used to think it was some kind of self-torture that scratched the skin, left red marks for hours, and honestly made no sense. But the truth is far from that.

Why Dry Brushing Works

The main organ we stimulate through dry body brushing is the skin. Not only is it our largest organ, but also the one most exposed to the outside world. The skin acts as a protective barrier for our body, but many of us suffer from lymphatic stagnation. Since the lymphatic system is part of our immune system, stimulating it through dry brushing supports detoxification, while also improving the skin’s appearance and health.

Benefits of Dry Brushing

  • Exfoliates dead skin cells

  • Boosts blood circulation

  • Reduces the appearance of cellulite

  • Cleans pores and makes skin glow

  • Supports lymphatic drainage

  • Increases energy and strengthens the immune system

  • Improves digestion

It only takes a few minutes each day to see results—and it feels energising too.

“People are feeling a pull to slow down more and more these days. I believe we can achieve this by simply taking ten, twenty minutes each day to focus on our own self-care. This is a start and it will absolutely bring pause into our daily lives.”
— Bec Jakstas, founder of Stass & Co

How to Dry Brush Effectively

Make dry brushing part of your five-minute morning ritual. Always use small, firm strokes and brush towards the heart to support circulation and lymphatic flow.

  1. Start at the soles of your feet and move upward.

  2. Brush your legs towards the groin where lymph nodes are located.

  3. From your hands, brush up your arms towards the armpits to release toxins.

  4. From the neck, stroke downward towards the heart.

  5. On the stomach, use clockwise circular strokes to stimulate elimination.

  6. Don’t skip the glutes—brush upwards towards the lower back.

With just a few minutes each morning, dry brushing can transform both your skin and your overall wellbeing.
